Scarbro specialise in civil works including metal supplies, carparks, drilling, rock breaking, site works and bulk earth moving, as well as residential and commercial contracting. We have been working in the greater Auckland area for many decades and are proud to still be family owned.
We have a wide range of modern, specialised equipment and the experience to tackle any sort of civil works. Our offices and main depot are located at 5 – 7 Hannigan Drive, St Johns.
A family business
Over 100 years in the making
The Scarborough family business has been trading for over 130 years. Originally known as Reuben Scarborough & Sons, they started out in the transport business in the late 1800’s with their horse and carts based in Victoria Avenue, Remuera. As each generation of the family joined the business, the emphasis changed a little. George laid the lawn courts at the Auckland Lawn Tennis Center in Stanley Street, Parnell in the 1920’s. Cecil moved the business into stone masonry, completing projects with his sons Brian and Ross, such as, the recently restored Parnell Baths mosaic mural and Vulcan Lane paving, the scoria wall for the Central Police Station on Vincent Street and many features at Auckland Zoo.
When Brian’s son, Paul, joined the family business, the focus shifted to earth-moving and a small residential firm was started in the early 1980’s. Now, nearly 40 years on, the next generation, Paul’s son, Liam, has joined the family business and Scarbro is one of the main earth moving contractors in Auckland. They work on a wide range of projects, from large commercial sites, to small detailed residential works.
